Room of the Week – Palazzo Medici Riccardi

My friend, Jacklyn Wolf, from Stone mark Construction Management, asked me why I don’t post more about the recent trip my husband and I took to Italy.  As I was going through the many photos I had taken I found these two.  This was probably one of the most beautiful rooms I visited in all of Italy, the magnificent Galleria in the Palazzo Medici Riccardi.  Built in the 17th century, the Galleria is a wonderful example of the splendor  of the late Baroque art.

I loved the Louis Ghost armchairs in the Galleria, I think it was set up for an event, so I was happy to see the palace is still being used for functions.{image Firoozeh Khorrami}

The fresco on the ceiling painted by Luca Giordano, dominates the lively room.   I was however surprised that only two or three of us were in the room instead of the big crowds we saw in other museums and cathedrals…..maybe we weren’t suppose to be there!

The Palazzo is also home to the Chapel of the Magi and the frescoes of Benozzo Gozzoli, I would have loved to share photos, but the security guards had a close eye on the chapel and there was no photography allowed.
